Earaches

Aconite

Outer ear is often hot, red and swollen. Very sensitive to noise. Tearing, tickling and sharp pain in the ears accompanied by restlessness. Tingling and buzzing. Symptoms usually appears after exposure to dry, cold weather, winds, draft of cold air. The left is more likely to be affected. Thirst especially for bitter drinks.
Better: open air and rest.
Worse: evening and night, warm room lying on left side.

Apis

External ear red and inflamed. Burning, shooting and stinging pain. Pain in ears when swallowing. Hearing can be affected. Could scream and raise hands to the back of the ears. Scarlatinal otitis. Marked restlessness and anxiety. Allergy could be the cause of the symptoms as well as fright, hearing bad news, mental shock.
Better: cold air.
Worse: heat in any form.

Belladonna

Pain in middle and external ear with sensitiveness to loud noises. Violent attacks and sudden onset. Hot, sensitive and painful ears. Terrible, throbbing pain, which can cause crying during sleep. Delirium caused by pain. Noises in ears, ringing, humming. Impaired hearing from taking cold.
Better: after rest, warmth, lying on unaffected part.
Worse: touch and noise, 3pm.

Chamomilla

Severe earache caused by otitis media with fever and anger. Sensitiveness to cold wind and touch. Stitching pain with soreness, swelling and heat which can make patient feel frantic. Sensation of stopped up in ears.  A child can be screaming, irritable and demanding, must be carried.
Better: being carried, motion.
Worse: being touched, 9 to 10 am, night and 9 to 10 pm.

Pulsatilla

Outer ear swollen, possibly red, bland discharge. Drawing, tearing pains, which can change location. Feeling as if something is pushed out from the ear. Pulsing sensation or even pulsing, rushing noises. Lobes of ear swollen. Ottorhoea, discharge of pus or blood. Pain can extend to face and teeth. Clingy, whingy, weepy and feeling sorry for themselves. Often accompanied by a cold which later develops in otitis. Thirstlessness.
Worse: heat, night.
Better: open air, gentle motion.

Hepar Sulphur

Sensitive to touch and wind, painful otitis media. Splinter sensation inside the ear. Often is associated with sore throats, pain extending to ears when swallowing. Mastoiditis. Roaring. Patient must be well covered, especially the ears. Could be triggered by cold, dry winds. Patient is very sensitive to pain, screaming from it and refuse to be touched.
Better: damp weather, warmth and wrapped up.
Worse: open air, motion, touch.

Silicea

Earache, boils, abscess. Hissing, roaring in ears. Eardrum can be perforated. Sensation as of stoppage with shooting pain in left ear when yawning or swallowing. Itching of outer ears. Discomfort can make patient bore in ears even when asleep. Thick cheesy smelly discharge. Sensitive to noise. Crusty formations in ears.
Better: covering the ears, external heat.
Worse: wind, cold, loud noises.

Mercurius

Inflammation of external ear canal. Otitis with marked suppuration. Cold followed by thick nose discharge and then earache. Yellow-green offensive discharge from ears with hearing loss. Excessive saliva and bad odour from the mouth. Tendency to right-sided. Sticking, tearing, pressing pain deep in ears.
Better: morning, rest.
Worse: drafts, cold, change of temperature, sweating, night.
